This little tortoise is super excited about eating his doughnut...
Here is a step by step tutorial on making a Sculpey doughnut.
Sculpey is a brand of polymer clay that is pliable at room temperature
and gets hard when you bake it.
It is available at most craft stores like Michael's
Here are the colors I used.
Glow in the dark colors: white (has a yellow tone), peach, green, blue
Solid colors: light pink, hot pink, and not pictured white
STEP 1: The plain doughnut
I made a beige ball from a mix of leftover light browns and metallic gold.
This ball is the size of a large blueberry.
To make a ball put the wad between the palm of your hands and roll them together in little circles.
NEXT...form your donut shape
Make a bar by rolling the ball on a clean smooth surface.
Get a penny and you can compare it to the size.
Now curve the ends into a circle shape.
Smooth the attached end with your fingertip and use some pressure to tighten the circle into a doughnut shape. It's ok if the clay does not look like a perfect ring, that's just like a real doughnut.
STEP 2: Now it's time to make glow in the dark frosting!
Mix equal parts white and glow in the dark white to make a large pea sized wad
Roll the white mixture into a bar this sized, thin and a little over 3 pennies long.
Curve bar into a wave with at least 5 curved peaks.
Bend the wave into a flower and attach ends.
Flatten the flower into a smooth layer and place it on your doughnut.
This is looking tasty!
STEP 3: It's time to make the colorful sprinkles!
Here are your colors again to be the sprinkles on top.
(Again, the green, blue, and peach are glow in the dark colors.)
I made 5 skinny bars of the sprinkle colors
With a knife or xacto blade cut the colors into little pieces.
Here is a photo of the tools I keep on hand for making sculpey charms and adding the metal loops.
Here I rolled the little pieces into tiny buggers
NEXT...Let's BLING this donut!
I decorated the donut with just the peach buggers so the colors will be evenly distributed on the white icing
Then I added hot pink evenly distributed on the white icing.
Continue to add each color 1 by 1 so they are distributed evenly.
You can stop here...or make your doughnut into a wearable charm.
STEP 4: Add the metal findings.
("FINDINGS" refers to any of the little metal parts you use when making jewelry.)
Once all the colors are on it's time to add your jumpring.
(A "JUMPRING" is the metal loop that you attach to a necklace, bracelet, or earring.)
I like to use a pewter 7mm closed jumpring that I order from Etsy.
The wire I like to use is also sold on Etsy, but I get it from my local bead shop.
In Memphis, TN you can get this is Bead Couture on Broad Ave.
search for 'Artistic Wire TINNED COPPER 20'
this is an inch long piece of wire and I curved it in the middle
using the roundness of my jewelry tool as a guide.
in goes your wire...
and you are ready to bake your doughnut.
Preheat over to 275 degrees and bake for 15 minutes.
